The Story of Prosciutto and Melon
Prosciutto and fresh melon, one of the most iconic Italian antipasto dishes that has been appreciated and enjoyed for almost two thousand years!
It has been said that the marriage of these two simple ingredients came about around the same time of the studies of a Greek doctor named Claudio Galeno who suggested that everything is made up of four elements: that is the warm, cold, dry and juicy; corresponding with the four elements of nature. He therefore suggested that in order to stay healthy, you must maintain a diet that balanced these four elements.
The combination of prosciutto and melon is one of the few that establishes this very balance without having to modify each element drastically. It is something that is also in line with the Italian cuisine which is often made up of very simple ingredients that together create an unforgettable meal.
The dish is incredibly simple to prepare, simply peel the melon, cut in half lengthwise, remove the seeds, and slice it as preferred. Wrap the thin slices of prosciutto around the melon and display on a serving dish.
